Wow!  so here I am a month later to update.  The daycare kids are doing great.  Barbra has been great and not at all like other bad experiences I have had.  I am skipping swim lessons this year.  Turns out we could only sign up for 2 sessions at the first day of sign ups.  there were people there at 2am standing in line and what are the chances of getting 6 or 7 kids in the right class at the right time?  Then I was not sure if I wanted to sit there with Jill (and possibly June and Duane) for 45 minutes waiting for everyone to finish their class.  No, next year we will have our own pool and do that instead.  I did buy the kids two snap set pools.  One is 10 ft across by 2 ft deep for the big kids and the other is 6 ft across by 18 in high for the little kids.  The kids have been loving it and I don’t see any reason to do anything different.  Of course it helps that our neighbor has a pool and has said we can use it.  He lives in MO and comes to stay a week about every 3 months.  He has said that we can swim in his pool so long as we help with the weeds in his yard.  What a deal!  He even has a pool guy!!  He is really nice.

We haven’t done any other unit studies.  We have been covering the basics and I’ve been working on Johns wall.  I need to take some pictures of it glowing for you guys.  It is way too cool!  I found a nice math program that I want to buy.

I am very excited about it.  A friend of mine has it.

I am planning a crafty party July 1st.  Everyone brings a shirt and we paint them patriotic type and eat hot dogs and cake and ice cream.  I’m inviting 6 ladies and there will be 25 kids if everyone comes.  It should be fun.

Jeff has been busy busy.  It seems that although he is home I never see him.  He gets up at 8am and is in his office until 10pm when I go to bed.  Most of the time even later!  It is great for him that he does not have to get dressed and spend time commuting.  We are going into 12 month renewals now and starting to reap the real rewards of a business with residual income!!  Can you believe he has been with Farmers 12 months!!  Wow, time does move faster as you get older.

Jenna has been a great kid lately.  She is so helpful.  She and John were in trouble the other day so I had them clean the kitchen.  It was great and my kitchen looked wonderful!!  Oh and the baseboards are shining too!!  She lost her top tooth and has a gaping hole now.  I’ll include a picture.

John is READING!!  Yes, that hooting you heard was me screaming when he finally “got it” this week.  He sounds words out to read them and he sounds words out to spell them!  Woo hoo!  It is about time and only two years after the Kindergarten teacher originally told me he was doing these things.   Other than that he is doing well.  We still have days where it seems like he chooses to disobey at every turn.  I still have not figured out the connection.  But for most part he can be good. The other day he told me “I have a bug bite on my tongue.”  and I said “How did a bug get in your mouth?” chuckling.  Jenna says “No, it is a blister.” and John says “What?  I haven’t been eating any wood!!”  It took Jenna and me a second to figure out and then we started laughing “Blister!  Not splinter!”

Jacob is doing great!  He has such a sense of humor.  I think he will be the clown and mediator when he is older.  I suppose he probably is already.  His favorite thing is catching the millions of grasshoppers we have in our backyard.  The other day the kids were sitting at the table doing school.  Someone comes to the door and Jeff gets it.  The kids ask me who it was and I tell them it was a guy who wants to kill our bugs.  Jacob says “*gasp* Why???”  Very concerned.  I say “Some people don’t like bugs in their yard but we told him our kids would be devastated if we killed the bugs.” They seemed happy then I said “Well, Dori sprayed her yard.”  trying to convince them that normal people do sometimes spray.  Then they are concerned again, Jacob says “They killed their bugs?  All their bugs?”  I said I imagined so.  Jenna looks concerned “Even the ladybugs?”  Yes, even the lady bugs.

Jacob was thumbing through a magazine the other day.  He says “It will be so fun when I can read.” then turns to me and says in an almost pleading tone “Mom, will you teach me how to read?”  SURE!  Wow!  If only they were all that easy.  We started flashcards last night and he learns those letters after seeing them twice!  He’ll be reading soon!  Woo hoo!  It only gets easier from here!

Jessica has been pretty good.  She has learned much these last few weeks about how society works.  Mary is not begging to play with anyone so Jessie must work at her friendship with her.  Junie could also take or leave Gabbie.  It has been great to watch Jessie learn that she can not be a brat and expect to have playmates.  And the 3 of them play so well together.  It has worked out great having Mary here.  She is doing great in her preschool book.  Sometimes I think she would sit there all night and work if I let her.  But alas, I can’t, I have things to do!

Junie seems so big now!  At nap-time I say it is time for bed and she takes herself up there and in bed.  The last two nights the kids all slept in the same room (a slumber party) and Junie was right there with them and acted like a big girl.  It seems as if I don’t see her all day.  So I guess I’ll just have to be happy hugging on Jill.  But Jill does not say the funny things Junie does. :(

Jillian is huge of course.  She rolls over and even puts her knees under her when she is on her stomach.  Wow She will be mobile soon!  The kids are so great with her.  When I was pregnant with her I had these high hopes that having a baby would unite us as a family better.  It would feel less “us and them”.  And that did not happen after Jill was born.  It felt MORE “us and them”.  Jenna was allowed to pick the baby up, John was not.  June was allowed to stand near the baby, Jessica was not (she nearly fell on Jill several times).  It was disheartening.  But now Jill is older and all the kids can interact with her more it has been great!  Jessica can make Jill laugh hysterically like no one else can.  Jacob is always kissing her on the forehead as he walks through the room. John and Jenna adore her as well.  It has been great, and it really has united us like I was hoping it would.  The whole interaction between all the kids amazes me.  I’ve never experienced that bond that siblings have and it is great to see my kids loving each other.

Other than that I think nothing else is new.  I killed my sewing machine today.  I was sewing THICK material and it jammed up the bobbin thread and after I cut all the thread loose it seems something is out of whack.  The mechanism that spins around the bobbin is hitting the needle and can not spin all the way around. :(  So I have to find a vac and sew place.  Bummer.  Hope it does not cost too much to fix as the machine was only $100! LOL

We threw down grass seed in the backyard.  The winter rye died.  So we are playing the fun game called “Water a million times a day in a race against the sun to keep the dirt wet.”
