Home School Group
Well this has been a great week for us! Jeff and I have become very involved in the homeschool group. So we are the yearbook team and are in charge of the directory. Add that to 8 little ones and Jeff’s full-time job and we are busy folks! But we are having a great time with the stuff. We made up welcome packets and have become the official welcoming committee. They are supposed to be handing over the website to us to manage as well. Jeff has an incentive this month for life insurance sales. The first week of the month he had nothing. Now this week he has people calling him and begging for it! LOL It is amazing how God works.
In other good news my daycare mom gave me notice. So I have another 2 weeks with Duane and Mary. At first I was in shock. There is no disagreement between us or anything just she decided she wanted to do something different with her kids. She is going to put them in preschool. I had tried to do school with Mary but she really was not interested. But when I started thinking about it it is great. We have our fostercare license and we are hoping to get a placement by the end of this month. I am really hoping for another sibling group of three. It would probably not be good to add three more kids that will likely have issues if I have daycare kids as well.
The kids are doing great. We are using Weaver curriculum and the kids are loving it. It is very hands on and they are learning a lot. We have been compiling the info we make into little books and folded papers and we are going to make a lapbook out of them.
Jenna is getting so old. Jeff has begun to rough-house with the kids. He never would before. But I guess he decided it was a good idea now. Jenna loves it. She is enjoying her penpals and writing letters to them. She writes more and more for fun now. She has read all of the American Girl books so we started in the Boxcar Children books. I think the Anne of Green Gables books are too advanced for her right now. There are about 100 titles in the Boxcar Children books. I think she has read 15 of them. The very first one I brought home she read in one night. She come down the next morning kinda groggy “Mom I read this last night, did you get any others?” LOL A child after my own heart! LOL I am so glad she is homeschooled and can sleep in if she chooses to stay up and read all night. And just so you all know she would prefer not to receive books for Christmas presents this year! LOL She recently told me she was a bit disappointed she did not get toys. Oh and for those that are keeping track we have decided to go with the magnetic Polly Pockets for her this year.
John is coming along so well with his reading. He can finally ride a bike this year without barreling into people. I can’t tell you how many bad situations we found ourselves in last year with him and that bike!! So far this year he has not mowed anyone down. Whew! Finally! He loves rough housing with Jeff especially. And it is all fun and games until someone gets hurt. But John is tough and he only cries for a second before he goes back in for more abuse. Jeff has bruises on his wrists from the kids hanging on him. Perhaps Jerry and Chris can get in on some of the action when they come to visit. I have noticed that John is so good at expressing himself lately. It makes me want to ask him if he had those things in his head the whole time and could not tell us or they are new thoughts.
Jacob is still the super bike rider. We really need to get him back in BMX, he is a natural. He is reading now too and does ok keeping up with the rest of the school work. Sometimes it is difficult because we do school in the afternoon and he gets tired. Once we are done with daycare I think we will split school up and do some in the morning. I was thinking we would do math in the evening when I get the curriculum but now I can move everything else to the morning and math in the afternoon. Or perhaps math would fit better in the morning when everyone is fresh and awake. In any case Jacob is doing great. He needs a haircut!
Jessica has come a long way!!!! I can actually let her play upstairs now. I don’t have to worry that she will break something or things will get ugly. She has done a great job of controlling herself. Once in awhile she will need a tune up and I will keep her in the room with me for the day but that is becoming more and more rare. She still is not allowed outside but we are working on it. She would love to do school but I just can’t find the time to sit with her and go through everything. Once the daycare kids leave I will try to fit her in somewhere. She is ready to at least learn her letters.
Junie is also interested in learning letters. I’m not sure how long she would sit to learn. And she definitely still needs a nap! She is still my Junie. The kids ask why she gets special preference and I say “Because she is June.” Just today she said she wanted some medicine. I told her it is yucky and she said “But I want some, it is sweet for me, I like it.” I gave her some and she drank it right up. then a minute ago she asked me for ice cream saying that she is still sick. “I took the medicine but I am still sick and my throat hurts, I need ice cream.” She loves to tell secrets “Do you know what I ate at the old house? Bend over and I’ll tell you a secret. *whisper* I ate bubble gum ice cream that was purple at the old house.” She still has her running monologues in the evening when we let her stay up. I really should videotape one so she can see when she is older. She picked up on the kids memory verse several weeks ago. She surprised us all by finishing the verse when someone else could not remember it! It was too cute. I really should find a nice Spanish program.
Jillian is growing and growing. She pulls up and cruises around. Not to mention how fast she is on her hands and knees!! Too funny, I just put socks on her for the first time and she giggled at them. She has figured out Mama. Not sure if she knows exactly what it means but she is working on it. It is so great having all these older siblings to keep her happy. But I would say she is the most spoiled of the 6 kids. She does not have to wait for anything!! She is a cutie and such a joy!! If Jillie is growing this fast will #7 grow even faster?
We are all a bit ill today. My daycare girl was sick all week. They tried to bring her Wednesday but she threw up that morning and went back home. Today they called in sick and Jill was up all night and several of my kids are complaining of sore throats. Jeff and I both feel kinda off as well. So we are taking it easy today and taking lots of vitamin C.
