Hard Work

Whew!  This preparing for a yard sale stuff is hard work!!  I guess it is really more than a yard sale, it is more of a moving sale.  We know we will move eventually!  The sooner the better!!  We are parting with all manner of things!!  I’ll get to that shortly.  First, here is the cute little tea press Jeff bought last night.  It is in use with some RRL tea this morning.  It worked marvelously.  I have it posing with the coffee press we have.  I call them the mommy press and the baby press which led me to wonder if they have a daddy press and what would you do with a press that LARGE?  You know I am just saying that to harass you, Jeff.  I love my new press, look at how happy it is!!

Tea time for the kids yesterday morning.  Josiah says “Can us have this one?”  They are opening and sniffing the boxes.

And here is a picture of my livingroom tonight.  We have this and MORE all over the house to put out tomorrow morn.  Jeff thinks it’ll just be a breeze to throw everything out there.  I told him people are going to be knocking on our door at 5am.  He doesn’t understand the viciousness of these frugal housewives!  We also have 3 TVs (how disgusting is that?) and two dressers (who uses those things anyway?) and 2 toddler beds (twins are graduating) and a small computer desk and a plethora of miscellaneous…ugh, the miscellaneous.  And the big debate about whether to sell any of the clothes we have stored away for *someday* when someone will fit them.  It seems every time we store clothes we pull them out later only to find that 90% of them were not in that great of shape when we packed them or we just don’t like them anymore.  What is the rule at your house?  We have a 4 year gap between the twins and Jonah.  Is it silly to save clothes for 4 years?  I’m beginning to think so.  See the three brown boxes stacked in front of the window?  MOVIES!!  And there is yet another box on the floor in front of them!!  Why oh why did we have so many movies?  I did keep some like the Moody Science videos but most of the rest need to go!!

The boys helped with moving things downstairs and had a blast working with Dad.  We are selling all the boxsprings and some mattresses in favor of bunkbeds and more comfortable mattresses.

I went through books and books and books.  It was so heart warming to finally have the time to look at each of the books that you sweet ladies sent while Jillian was ill.  I’d come across a new book and say to myself “Oh, I remember this book!  It came when we were in the PICU!”  Of course I can’t remember who the senders were but I want you all to know that I could never part with the great gifts you all sent during that horrible time in our lives.

Kathy sent a quilt and dress and hysterical card that sings.  The card sings “I am alive, I will survive!” I can’t remember the artist but it is a disco sounding song from the 70s.  It scared Jill when she opened it but then next thing I knew she and the littles were running circles in my kitchen dancing to the open card.  You made her day Kathy. :)

I am certain there was more I was going to post but as of the last 5 minutes my brain has shut off of it’s own accord.  I’m on my own here….and it’s lonely…and it’s very difficult to form a complete thought.  I think I’ll stop trying.  If it was important I’ll remember tomorrow.

We will be up early and I’ll be taking pictures!!  I did video today and only missed everyone’s ascent to bed.  I’ll catch that tomorrow and with creative editing you’ll never notice it was shot on two different days. :)

Oh oh, I remember the other thing…Jeff wants me to have a “contest” and “give away” something on my blog.  After pondering for a moment I said “Hey, I have two of those ‘a journey home’ DVDs.”  We bought one copy online and then at the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival last year they had a 3 DVD set that included “a journey home” for the price that you would have paid for only 2 of the DVDs.  So, here I am, giving one of our copies away.

I want to run this give away the same way the Biblical Womanhood lady did.  So if you want to enter to win this brand new DVD absolutely free just e-mail at the link on the upper right.  Please put “a journey home” in the subject line.  If you want to be entered twice just mention this contest in your blog and send me the link to your post.  I’ll leave this open until next Friday night, August 10, at midnight.

I am so excited!!  Now I have my second wind because I’m all hyped up!!  Start entering and let’s see who wins!!

Our clothes rule is 2 years storage max! Some exceptions can be made for timeless, high quality items that aren’t too trendy (suits, really nice slacks/jeans, etc).
So how did it go today?
It is so nice to get rid of excess stuff and clutter– it makes it so much easier to just breathe!

Can’t wait to hear how the garage sale went. They are such a huge undertaking. You are a braver woman than I.
Oh, and thanks for commenting on thebean’s blog. He thought it was very cool that Jenna’s mom came by :-) Thanks.
God Bless

Aug. 5, 2007 – Our storage rules are that…..

Posted by short

basically we don’t store. When God provides another body, He always provides more than enough clothing. I have only kept a few sentimental items from when mine were teeny just because I’m a soppy mother, but in all these years the principle of giving and receiving has worked whether we wanted it to or not :-)
Hope the sale goes well.
