Jessica’s outfit is done.
This picture I forgot to post yesterday. Look how great the weather was.

Jessica’s new outfit.

She embroidered the pockets to match the shirt.

What a sweet little pocket.

John pulled out a puzzle today.

Then everyone wanted to do a puzzle. I think these were a Hannukah present one year so we have a few puzzles.

I cooked the sourdough bread this morning and it was a complete flop. Jeff says he wants to try his hand at it. I say go for it. I’m going to try a different recipe next time.
Tomorrow we head to the property to take family pictures. Won’t that be nice with the fall leaves and creek in the background? I hope it turns out as idyllic as I think it will.
Tonight we shoot the sewing video.
Mountainmama, Did you see Ali’s response to your question? She said “Just wanted to add, for mountainmomma’s sake that I used to use the large kitchenaid mixer, and it couldn’t handle all the breadmaking… The Bosch has a bigger capacity and a stronger motor. The kitchenaid was starting to make an unhealthy motorish sound… it couldn’t handle the strain of fresh ground whole grains. It was fine for some lightweight, single batch stuff, but with the whole grains even the 2 loaf bread recipe was getting to be too much… I couldn’t even fit the 6 loaf recipe…
Anyway- just thought I’d throw that out there…â€
Mo, I need you to post your blog address. I never saved it because I could always go to the WS and click from there.
Lee, You reminded me I want to try my hand at home made tortillas. Oh, fresh warm large tortillas. Can you imagine??
Jensgang, Yes RAD can happen with kids in daycare…especially really poor daycare. One of the reasons Lina has RAD is because she was neglected by her bio mother for the first 5 months of her life and then she was dropped in a shelter where the ratios are 8 infants under age one to one care giver. When we got her at age 10 months she could hardly sit by herself and could not have cared less if someone held her, played with her, interacted with her. Her eyes were glazed over and she had a flat effect. I remember the first week we had her I took her to the homeschooling group and everyone passed her around without a care. I knew right then that I needed to keep her with me all the time or we would have some serious issues in the future.
But really what you would say is “Attachment Issues†or just “Attachment Disorder†instead of “Reactive Attachment Disorder†as RAD is more severe.  And in truth I think my kids just have attachment issues and not full blown RAD but RAD is so much easier to type. J
Barbara, we have investigated the skirts vs. pants debate but didn’t really find scriptural backing for it. More importantly Jeff didn’t feel it was biblically mandated. I do believe that girls should look like girls and boys like boys. Jenna’s hair is longer than she would like it because we got tired of people mistaking her for a boy. She used to wear baseball caps all the time. We do plan to someday take her to a salon to have her hair cut in a short but still girlie look. It’s on my list but not my priority.
Jana, yep, we stick to 30 minutes of math and I prefer MUS but I think any program with manipulatives would work. The other subjects are either very short (handwriting) or done as a group (spelling, grammar, history, science) so there is less frustration on everyone’s part. And the biggest thing to remember is if they knew the information yesterday but it’s not there today DON’T GET FRUSTRATED. Even though it is highly frustrating. Good luck with that. ;)
Dawn and Cecelia, Thanks for weighing in with your RAD/new baby stories. I think sometimes these kids are given a bad deal by being placed as the youngest in the family. There is something to be said about the joy a baby can bring to anyone, even damaged children.
Becky, the woodshed is VERY similar to how we parent. Â
Ginger, I used to put a teaspoon of VCO in each bowl of oats. Why did I stop that? It’s so good for them!!
T, the key to getting children to stop a certain behavior is exactly like dog training. You make the negative consequence more uncomfortable than any positive reinforcement the child may be receiving. I am sure you can think of things that would cause your daughter to change her mind about whether she likes to backtalk. Read more at www.raisinggodlytomatoes.com

Hey Katie,
Love the pics. You’re such a busy bee! Pizza looks great, butter looks delicious and I want a care package too! LOL!!! You are such a good neighbor. I need to reach out to my neighbors somehow. Perhaps, through the holidays I can take some nice baked goodies to them.
I miss the lunches too. We’ll link up again…someday! {Sigh}
Well, I survived the first two days with eight kiddos. I’m still feeling pretty bad, but YES I am taking my garlic, vitamin C, etc. I probably will go see a NP soon. I can’t do another episode like this, too debilitating.
Well, enjoy the nice weather. It’s finally cooling off here.
Blessings,
Diane
