Bratwurst and Eggs

I know what you are here for. You don’t come here for the baby pictures or the intimate details about my upbringing. You are all about the food. Well here is my attempt at picking up where we left off with our healthy eating cook along.
The ingredients. Almost. These were the left overs we had in the fridge. Green chilis, a new can and some left over. Wehani rice, which I really ought to have a whole separate post about because it is so wonderful it deserves it. Corn. Bratwurst. I forgot to photograph the eggs. But you know what eggs look like, right?
First I chop the bratwurst.
And into a pan it goes. Oh ya, and I add a tablespoon or a stick of butter depending on my mood.
Time to start the griddle. Never use a nonstick griddle.
That butter is looking mighty fine all meltied all over that brat.

Oh, the griddle is ready.
I squeezed 10 eggs on here.
You see that simmering butter in the bottom of the pan? I could eat that bratwurst with a spoon right now. But it is time for the green chilis. Dump those babies in.
This is my friend Wehani Rice. If Jeff wasn’t so great I’d run off with the Wehani Rice to the Bahamas and live happily ever after.
I’ll put some of this in as well. But I might want to save some for something later.
Nah, I’m going to throw caution to the wind and revel in my obsession. Bring on the Wehani!!
I tell you what, I could pour myself a big glass of this and suck it up through a very large straw. Yummy!!
Oh look at this stuff. Do you like eggs as much as I do?
I had more room after I mixed the eggs. So I really made 12 eggs. So shoot me.
Now I like corn as much as the next person but corn is not the most healthy of foods so I went easy on the corn.
How fabulous is this? I could eat this three meals a day. Until I got sick of it and I’d have to take a break for some meatloaf or something.
Lookie here, the eggs are done.
I have to include a close up because these eggs look just delicious.
Yet another close up because you can’t get enough and I know it.
Time to integrate the two. You are salivating now and that’s ok.
In with all the eggs. All 12.
Must chop. Chop. Chop.
Chop those eggs with vigor.
And a final mix.
Now my tummy is growling. When oh when can I make this again? Look it is glistening just like Miss America in the swimsuit contest. This is definitely a meal worthy of a tiara.
But wait, we are not done yet!! Apples. Granny Smith apples no less.
I’m the master apple chopper. You can aspire to be as good as me but I assure you that I get much more practice.
Oh a veritable smorgasbord of healthy eating. That’s it, I need some lunch!
Yep, everyone was suitably impressed and cleaned their plates. Lots of happy customers here.

Okay, that looks incredibly yummy! Gonna have to try this. Is the rice “crunchy” like wild rice? It looks like it might be.

Now that does certainly look yummy. I’m not a big sausage fan, though…perhaps bacon instead?? It looks good enough to try it with the bratwurst, though.

One more reason to be sad that my family will not eat rice. :( I love, love, love rice. Oh well, I’ll make myself a big pot of it and eat it all week like I usually do. We go easy on the corn here. I get tired of explaining it’s not a veggie, it’s a grain. Whatever. Looks yummy!

Your rice abhorring family is very sad indeed. More for you!! :)
Wehani rice is not crunchy if cooked thoroughly.

That looks yummy!

Oh I NEED some of that yummy rice. I don’t know what’d I do if no one ate rice here. Well… I suppose I’d say eat that rice or you’re in trouble :) It looks so delicious. I’ll have to look next time I make a bulk order and see if I can get some.

I served rice about 40 times before I just quit serving it. I won’t let the kids eat anything else if they don’t like dinner, but when it comes to rice, they choose to go hungry. I just don’t understand how you cannot like it. Hubby doesn’t like it either. Weird. If I made something like this, though, they probably would eat around the rice and eat the other stuff. *rolling eyes*

I have some wehani rice on order from the local co-op. Will have to make this. Does it need any seasoning?

That looks like a yummy! Yummy meal. The pics of Jodi are tooooooo Cute. I hope you don’t mind me using the pics as emotional warfare against my dear husband. “look dear at this really cute baby! We need another one of those!!!! See the feet! We don’t have any feet that size in the house anymore!!!” LOL!
Blessings,
Dawn

ChristyC, Nope, no seasonings.
Dawn, You do what you have to do. ;)

that looks good! I don’t know if I can find that rice around here.

So, was this post just to head off any of those people who might have thought you were actually serious when you said you hadn’t been feeding the kids? LOL Looks good, though I am not big fan of brawts. The Jodi pics were much tastier, IMO :)

Are Bratwurst healthy, because I will buy some tomorrow if they are.
YOU HAVE MY GRIDDLE. I love that thing, wouldn’t want to do without it! pancakes and grilled cheese, and cornbread, usually.
The itching has begun. I’m only at 29 weeks. Do I have to drink the nas–tea?
February 4th, 2008 at 11:36 pm
Alice,
Get the tea. Dandelion root. It helped take the edge off. On Jodi’s first birthday I will be doing a liver cleanse. I am *not* doing the itchies again. And the bratwurst we buy from Sam’s Club is nitrate/nitrite free. :)

We don’t get bratwurst here :( but it looks yummy nevertheless. I personally come for the photos of the children ;)

I think you should do a whole post devoted to the rice, there is so much interest in it and you are so passionate about it.
I’ve never heard of that kind of rice before. Is it a type of rice like Jasmine or Basmati or is it a way of making rice? I suppose i could Google it. Where do you find such a thing? Special order? How do you prepare it?
My little gal absolutely adores rice of all kinds. It would be sad to have a family who doesn’t like it, but to each his own, i suppose.
My husband is going to be thrilled that Sams has those brats. His favorite food.
Do they come fresh or frozen….so i know where to look?

Shannon (my dh) said… Ok, we must try that! :D
He would want to add some kind of cheese… to him EVERYTHING is better with cheese! ;)
Have a great day!
Love,
Chas

What does Wehani rice taste like? Would this meal taste okay or similiar with brown rice as an alternative? Looks yummy!
