It’s Crazy

The weather I mean.   The day I went to lunch with Debbie it was 65 degrees at 9am and snowing at 2pm when we left the tea room.  That afternoon we had winds gusting to 40mph and a wind chill factor of 7 degrees.  You know about the snow storm we had the other day and now today it is supposed to be 72 degrees.  It has been really fun and we are not sick of the “winter” yet because we get a break every 10 days.

Jodi February 04, 2008

So now that Jodi is almost a month old I was considering starting school again.  But really will I be able to pull myself away from her long enough to read a book or two and supervise some worksheets?  And how will I ever put down this camera that has attached itself to the end of my arm?  What is the perfect age to start school after a new baby is added to the family?

My kids have a new fun activity that keeps them occupied so I don’t have to speak to them and sometimes I don’t have to feed them either.  I jest.  We still feed them, just they drink power shakes while staring glassy eyed at the computer screen because we don’t dare interrupt them lest they decide to interact with us and we are called on to parent again.  This is like a regular vacation.

Someone is coming over tomorrow so we can talk about all things slingy (you know, for carrying babies) and I suspect that I should probably clean the house.  I have had it on my list of things to do for…awhile.  Do you think the impending visit will motivate me?  that remains to be seen.  Where is the itemized list of places in this house that are dirty and need attention?  Hmmmm.  At least the laundry is done and not crawling it’s way out into the livingroom anymore.

My neighbor mentioned to me yesterday that her daughter is getting old enough to babysit.  I tell you what, nothing makes me heart sing like having a babysitter that lives right next door.  I’ve been doing a happy dance since our conversation yesterday afternoon.  Let’s pray that their plans don’t change and I am told that the girl has chosen not to pursue this money making venture.  I may just cry myself into oblivion and then run off to the Bahamas.

It should be illegal how cute baby feet are.

The End.

Oh, the baby feet are just too precious! I had lots of reading to do on Jeff’s blog. Jeff calls things as he sees them witout any hem-hawing around. I like that. Sometimes it is hard to hear. But these posts have solidified why we homeschool today. And I can certainly agree with parents’ choice to not allow overnight stays with folks that don’t or won’t respect your wishes about how you choose to raise your kids. Even if that person is a grandparent. In the end it is the parent who will be judged for what our kids are exposed to not the grands or aunts and such. So we must do what we know to be right. Keep fighting the good fight Bettendorfs! Your convictions and fervor (sp?) are an encouragement to me.

  • I can’t get over how alike all your kids look. Even at almost a month Jodi show signs of definitely looking like the rest of the bunch. I mean my sisters and I… it is hard to tell we are even related. We don’t look alike, think alike or live alike. I want a do-over!

Baby feet are cute. My cousin is a professional photographer. She just did a photo shoot with my almost 16-year old and insisted on feet shots. Somehow, I am not sure that size 9 girl feet with nails painted pink, red, pink, red… will hold the same appeal.

She is so adorable, Katie. You guys sure know to make ‘em cute :-) And those feet, they are absolutely precious. My boys have a penguin. I’l have them comment Jenna and let her know.
As for school, after a baby it is hard. I babysit a little one and until she was three months, we did things like watch Little Bear Wheeler videos and Moody videos, read tons of books individually, read alouds covering all subjects, and they all did Quarter Mile Math and Critical Thinking things on the computer. I felt like, other than formal spelling, they were getting everything they needed. If you school year round, you don’t need to be worried to much. You only need 1000 hours in MO with 600 of those in core areas.
Enjoy the time off, and this gorgeous day you are having. You know what they say, if you don’t like the weather in MO, just wait a day. Now you understand that a bit :-)

  • It was 80 this morning so we headed to the park. I’ll be posting pics later. We had so much fun! Stayed at the park for 3 hours!
FANTASTIC pics btw. She’s such a cutie.

  • Kelly, Thanks for the encouragement.

Julie, You’ll have to post pics of the feet. Too funny.

Lee, It seems sometimes you don’t even have to wait until tomorrow.

    Ginger, thanks, we like her.

  • Katie, I agree. Baby feet are the cutest! But what really gets me is the tiny little pinky (pinkie?) toe nail. I’m always amazed at how tiny and cute it is! Is it just me? :-)

  • Wonderful pictures of Jodi! She is a sweetie.

I love slings, but i am really loving the Moby Wrap i got with our latest addition. It uses my whole back so i’m not lopsided like i am after wearing the sling.

We are hot today….about 80 degrees, so we went to the zoo for our science class.
It was lovely, but oh so windy.

We’ll have to check into the penguins later. And the rice for reading is way cool!

  • We are in NC and the weather is similarly crazy. As for schooling after a baby, we had our baby on saturday and we had lessons today, LOL. I’m not crazy I promise, but we took so much time off around the holidays that I didn’t finish what I wanted to last month. I have one more week of lessons planned, and I figured if I can just get those done, I will have earned a little month or two long break and adjustment time :) Anyway, I bet you can read books or correct papers with one hand while still hanging onto the camera with the other :) Good luck and many blessings! Veronica

  • Oh, the cute baby pictures…oh, the adorable little feet! I can almost smell that delicious baby smell! Must. get. my. baby. fix. And…now I’m hungry, too…it’s just not fair!

  • Julia

What a beautiful little girl. She does look so much like her siblings. The hands and feet shots are adorable! I remember getting lots of clicks to ge that perfect foot or hand shot, lol. Your camera seems to do it easier than mine though! All of your pics turn out so lovely.

My daughter oohed & ahhed over your photos of Jodi & said “Oh, mommy, when are you going to have another baby!?” I’ve been trying :o)
    Josiah is praying for triplets!
I love baby feet as well! Precious feet!
    Kiss Jodi’s toes for us.
Love, Jennifer (Wife to Chris, Mom to Jared, Julianne, Janessa, Jenna, Josiah, Joshua, Jessica & Jacob)
