Didja Say You Want Water?

Did you hear about the flooding in Missouri?  I did.  Believe me you don’t miss it when it rains for 48 hours straight.  And I don’t mean none of that drizzle rain stuff that we saw when we first moved here.  I’m talking full out cats and dogs, although Jenna called it cows and horses.

Well, now you have heard about it too.  This is what we call extreme weather.  That turns into extreme water.  In extreme places…like your garage.

Aren’t you glad you don’t live here?  This is the backside of the blue building up on top.  Which is more disturbing?  The fact that the garage has 2 feet of water or that the residents would need a boat to run to the store for milk.  Then again, I don’t think this is a residence.  Btw, I was asked how the state of MO makes it’s money for schools and snow plows and well, water pumps and sand bags if the property tax isn’t outrageous.  I’m pretty stupid about all things gov’t related so does someone else know the answer to this burning question?

These folks live on the Finley River.  It’s so much easier for them to go for a dip, or a float, or a swing in the river now.  The river came to them.  It doesn’t look like that dock with the corrugated green plastic for a roof is going to be much fun this week.

This is what the bridge looked like.  I’ll have to take another picture when the water is down to normal levels.  Trust me when I say that it should not be this high.  The news was all over this.  I think there were 3 news stations parked over there with cameras fixed on the water.  They each wanted to be the first to catch the river coming up over the bridge.

Crazy. But the clouds did not cooperate and all we got is debris stuck in the bridge.  Do you suppose it’s still there a couple days later?  Does the city remove stuff like that?  And where do they get the money to maintain stuff?

We have a busy day today.  There is an Easter potluck tomorrow that we are bringing chicken salad to.  I need to make that today.  And finish some aprons.  And make something for the cook along on Monday.  And cook some chilies to mix with the beans I’m going to make.  Hey, the local farmers market starts April 12th.  I’m elated!!!

Isn’t this flooding amazing? The boys and I were out looking around yesterday. Rivers here haven’t crested yet and there are major streets closed every where. They are working hard to keep an Interstate open, too. Unbelievable.

We’re gonna take another drive today and look. Rivers are up 5 feet since we looked yesterday. Can’t even imagine what we are going to see. Maybe I’ll get a few picutres. It is history in the making.

Are you all dry? We are, praise the Lord. Thanks for posting the amazing pictures.
Nobody can ever say Missouri weather is boring LOL!

Oh yes! I remember those murky, coffee looking rivers MO has! Had to swim in one once and ended up with a big ole river snake. Don’t have a clue what kind of snake as I’m from the North you see. Creepy when you swim in something you can’t even see your own body in nevermind the snakes and other lovely creatures that are swimming with you. *shivers*

I’m curious too… what does your property look like now?

We went down to the river today and were amazed at how much flooding there was. I don’t think we got nearly as much rain as y’all did, either. We only had 5 or 6 inches, but upriver they got more so it is really high.

I’m sure your low water bridge is totally covered.

Okay, MO is not the place for me…don’t care how cheap it is to live there. The floods and snakes, tornadoes, storm shelters and crappy fruit & veggies availability ….have convinced me….I think I’ll stay right here in NJ!

“cows and horses” that’s pretty cute.

I’m tagging you because I only read two blogs so far….

Have you been out to your property to assess how high the water is there? I’ve been concerned about this for you for a while, so I hope it’s not up to your building spots.
