She Reads.
I asked her to wait. I practically pleaded with her “Please don’t grow up. Can’t you be little awhile longer?” Her reply? “I want a blog like June. I have to be able to read to have a blog.” Hmph.

So we borrowed the Bob Books from the library.

And she read. Quickly. And well.

I’m so glad I ditched that other phonics program I had. Turns out kids are either ready or they are not. Jillian was ready.

I’m going to go cry now. Excuse me.

Yay Jillian!
So cute that she wants a blog and that’s why she wants to read.
My youngest boy is begging me to teach him to read, too. I can’t seem to go fast enough for him, but like you i don’t really want him to grow up just yet. I still think he is little. But, alas, he is ready and we move on.
Her hair is getting so thick and cute with the tousled look. woo-hoo
AW! I’m happy for Jillian! I can understand wanting to cry too – it’s a beautiful thing when our kids hit various milestones!
Oh we love the Bob books at our house! And I LOVE Jillian’s short hair–I am partial to short hair myself! She’s a doll. And you deserve every tear you shed over her growing up!
Jillie looks so good!! Hooray for wanting to read! It is such a bittersweet Moment for us Mommies huh? Especially after a journey you have traveled with Jillie. I have no doubt she is going to make up for lost time!! :O)
We love Bob books in our house too. =)
Oh, Katie, I’m so sorry!…Um, I mean congratulations Jillie!…..I mean, I’m so sorry!
Love, love, love, love Bob Books! They give the kids such confidence so much earlier. If you know your letter sounds you can read! It’s awesome! (Have you ever seen so many exclamation points in one comment? !)
Way to go Jillie!!! ( And cry away, Mom – I completely understand!) :-(
Katie, I got your question about booster seats, and if you wouldn’t mind could you email me and can give you several recommendations. ( It will probably be lengthy, and I don’t want to ‘crowd’ your comments)
Thanks,
Michelle
Awesome!
Is her hair coming back in wavy? I’ve heard that can happen.
Katie,
I cannot believe that you taught her to read in the “3 WEEKS” a year that you homeschool. There must be some sort of award for that. :) ROFL
Way to go Jillian!
Hurray for learning to read! Plus a pat on the shoulder for Katie. It is our job to work oursleves out of that job but it does hurt, just a little, each time they take a step towards “grown up”.
Wow! How exciting! Way to go Jillian. That is so wonderful that she is reading. The whole world opens up to her now.
I understand the tears, Katie. When our babies grow up, it is joyful but sad. There is such reason to rejoice today for Jillian. All she has overcome, all she has acheived…..and her hair….so beautiful.
What a fantastic day. Way to go girls :-)
That is so wonderful. She is ready to enter the magical place of books on her own.Wow, and look at that grat hair, makes you want to run yor fingers through it. You are very blessed, but I think you knew that Leena
Crying with you! Abigail just started reading this week. :( :)
All by herself. She asked me about letter sounds and now she goes around sounding out words. Picked up the Pathway reader today.
It goes so fast.
God bless…Angela
Beck is reading too…(whisking that tear away)
And she is asking to spell EVERYTHING!!! And the most amazing thing to me is that she REMEMBERS!!
Looks like that Jillian is going to be a curly girl with her new hair…or is it just tousled?? It really is so wonderful to see all that hair coming in.
Congratulations Jillian!!! I cried when Monkey started reading a couple of weeks ago. LOL! I think we all cry when they hit these milestones and since Jillian hitting them is such a miracle – you deserve more tears than most!!
Oh she is so cute! I love her hair – it’s coming in so cute :-)
How sweet.
Her hair is growing back so beautifully. :)
I’m sorry but I, too, have to comment on her BEAUTIFUL hair!!! It’s gorgeous! Praise Jesus for that head of hair!!!!
That is SO funny. My 5-year-old daughter, Joely, has been promised the same thing. Her older sister and brother have a blog, but Joely’s been told she has to learn to read before she can get a blog of her own.
How interesting that y’all have done the same thing!
