Update

Jeff is staying with Jodi in the PICU tonight. She can’t have anything by mouth so I’m not needed there and I really need some sleep. The CT scan showed the adrenal gland was fine. Usually it would be enlarged if there was adrenal stress. Cortisol test results are not in yet. CT scan showed no stenosis but some inflammation at the splenic flexure (this is anatomy, we can count this as school).

The plan now is to wait and see. She is on antibiotics, one dose of steroids and some pain meds like versed. I’m not so thrilled with the antibiotics. Nothing cultured but they are assuming there must be a problem to cause the inflammation. I want to treat the inflammation and so tomorrow we will bring a GI doc on board. I’ve already called both St. Louis and Kansas City’s children’s hospital and we would go to KC if we get any grief or surgery is recommended.

Anyone have any ideas how I can get herbs/probiotics into Jodi’s large intestine except by mouth?

We are praying, praying, praying. How scarey this must all be. Peace, comfort and strength for you and Jeff as all this is going on. Keep us posted so we know how to pray.
In Him may you soar with wings like eagles!

You will continue to be in our hearts, minds, and prayers.

  • Oh Katie!! I just read your last two blog posts. (time differences stink!!) We will be praying for you all and especially for Jodi!! I can only think of two ways to get to the large intestine – down or up!! Not sure there is anything you can do till the nill by mouth is lifted. But I’ll be praying that you can find a way. Can probiotics be given intravenously?? I know it wouldn’t put them in the intestines but into her body at least.
May the peace that passes all understanding guard your hearts and minds in HIS name!!!

Katie, I am so sorry you are having to go through such a difficult time. I am praying for little Jodi and the situation at the property.

    With love,

Continued prayer here, kept waking during the night and praying….anyway….

What about in an enema? The large intestine is right there. Of course it would be a teeny weeny one, but it could be super concentraed with the stuff you’d want it to have, right?

    Katie,
I am praying for your littlest of girls, for wisdom for the docs and for strength for you and Jeff. Bless Baby Jodi, Lord Jesus!

  • We are praying here too…

I had IV probiotics last fall. Also my immune compromised grandson gets them when he is NPO, (nil per os). This means nothing by mouth and you can count this as Latin :)

  • I am so sorry to hear about Jodi! Yikes! How scary. My children and I are praying for Jodi during circle time this morning and while they do their chores.

    Blessings,
    Dawn

  • Praying for you. Hope you were able to get some sleep….

Praying for you. So sorry. I’d also look into IV probiotics.

    Hey Katie,

wow, this stinks. All my love to you and yours.

Aromatherapy might help, burning oregano oil. also massage with essential oils is quite effective sometimes. Or compresses of Vit. E mixed with the herb you want to use, things to fight infection, Bathing in epsom salts. Enema was a really good suggestion too. Chiropractor?

    Katie,
Are they feeding Jodi with a food tube, if so will they allow you to bring your pumped breastmilk for her and if so, do probiotics transfer through mother’s milk? The enema sounded like the quickest way to get them directly in her intestine though; possibly a poultice, but I’m not sure that would get to where you want it quickly enough. I’m continuing to pray for Jodi and your family.
