Update on the Property – Part III
So you read and saw the pictures of our visit to the property and then you saw the subsequent vandalism now let’s check in at the property again and see how things look. All was well at the build site and so we took a trek down to the water to see how high it was after all the rain we got several weeks back.
After walking around for a bit and taking notice of all the wild plants we have there Jeff decided to explore the other side of the creek. That stuff over there is ours as well. He rolled up his pants and waded across.
Dad. Dad. Dad. Can we come too? The heckling started immediately.
No, you guys will fall and get wet and the water is moving fast and no, you can not come.
Please Dad, we won’t fall, we won’t get wet, the water is not moving too fast.
No, you have pants on, didn’t you see how high this water is?
Dad, we will take our pants off. They won’t get wet.
Well if you want to take your pants off then do it.
Jessica found the whole thing very amusing.
And there goes Jacob in his skivvies.
That boy cracks me up.
Jenna just rolled her pants.
And carried her shoes.
I was so waiting for some one to fall. And I was SO disappointed too.
Why do I have such sure footed children?
Everyone stayed dry for a moment but that was soon to end. After all, I had 10 other little ones with me. Key word: Little. Oh ya, let the fun begin. Stay tuned for part IV coming in a couple hours.
In the meantime, answer this poll for me:

I admit it. I covet your property. We live out in the country, but this is farming country not woodsy-country. Can we come camp there?!
I want to live in the country VERY badly, but have never had the chance. :D
Oh… now — I live in the boonies… but large animals?? yikes… I’ll stick to the mouse eaters we’ve got here… and leave it at that. =)
We’re combing the online listings for lots of property in MO right now. We’ve found so many it’s hard to decide (great prices, beautiful acreage). Our biggest obstacle is selling the 3 properties we currently own in MI where the housing market is currently in the toilet.
I love living in the city. Love my neighbors, love the conveniences. Everything I need is within a 10 min drive. It doesn’t get better than this!
How about another choice that says “I lived in the country for 15 years (hubby his whole life) and loved it, but being 20 minutes away from everything, including Wal-mart and a grocery store lost its novelty quickly.” Sports for the kids was a major problem, as well as dance classes.
I also didn’t enjoy the surprise critters in my house. Big ole mice and wolf spiders.
But I miss the tranquility, the perfect starry skies, fresh air, the smell of corn in the field as it tassels, the way my kids slept like logs after a day outside, leaving my doors unlocked, my keys in the car ignition, neighbors looking out for my family.
Now I have four Target stores within a 5 mile radius. A grocery store on every corner. Wonderful schools, great neighbors and friends all withing walking distance.
I guess people can be content anywhere if they make up their mind to be.
None of your options suit me. I grew up in the country, then lived in the city, then lived in the very rural mountains/country, and am now in a little neighborhood that is surrounded by farmland, but only 30 minutes to the big city – and very close to multiple little towns that are full of historic charm and quaintness :) I think I’ve found my “spot”!
We’re in a neighborhood, but not in a city, and separated from other houses by some acreage, so I chose the “we live in the country” option. Since, after all, we can have animals if we want.
Oh, and did I mention? LOVE IT!
well you didn’t have the “we used to live in the ‘country’ with “no” neighbors until they came and stole two guns and wheelbarrow from us… and we were glad to move to town in a nice neighborhood” option but that would be me :)
p/s… and our trash can but they were nice enough to leave the lid :P
I used to, when I was raising my kids, we had 18 acres. and no neighbors, it was lovely! But circumstances changed and we moved to a small town, which was still nice. Then circumstances changed again and we moved to a bigger town, then circumstances changed again and we back to a small town.
IF circumstances change again, who knows, may move to the country, or to a bigger town. (insert rolling eyes here, lol)
I voted that we’re living in the country, but it’s really not quite true. We’re staying at a wonderful place (with a CREEK!) for a little while, but I probably can’t say that we live here.
We want to live in the country but have no idea how. Help? I was born and raised in Los Angeles and currently live in Phoenix. Hate it! How do you decide where to go and what to do? We have no family to really move close to…everyone else is in the city too.
That’s why I choose the option of coming out and camping on your property. :-)
I’m with Alisha! I live 15 miles from town and its gotten old. The price of gas and the amount of time spent in the van is pretty bad. I don’t want to live in a big city, but I’d LOVE to move to town.
