Spring is Here!

May 13, 2008

And we are so busy!! Is this the way it is in all states that have seasons?

Just last week we had the chiropractor, a proposed trip to the property that was pre-empted by rain and became a visit at our house by a friend, I had lunch with a friend (Carey, do you have a blog?), a visit with the midwife 1.5 hours away and then a planning meeting for the next dance (mark your calendars, June 27th, 6pm-11pm). All of that in addition to school and life and trying to finish yet another never ending swap with the eternally patient Cathy and Sarah.

I don’t have any recent pictures to share because I’ve even been too busy to take pics. Can you imagine?

We just purchased a new bus and Jeff will be going to pick it up soon. Hoorah for bigger vehicles. Jason has EMDR therapy today. If it does anything I’ll be sure to tell you about it. HERE is a great video of EMDR in action.

Jodi is calling.

What a great bus!! Congratulations! Do you have to get a special license to drive it?A CDL. Hmph! -Katie

We, too have been busy, even though we have only two seasons. We are wrapping up school and then things will get really busy!

Have a great Tuesday, and tell Jeff we miss him on the forum and his blog.

Yes, it is busy until it gets miserably hot outside. Then we settle down a bit.

Cool bus! You’ll have to post pics of what it looks like inside with all the kids strapped in…..later of course, when you’re not so busy. I’m always curious to see how others arrange their kids in the vehicle.

I hope the therapy works out well for Jason.

Holy cow, that’s a big bus! There will definitely be plenty of room for the kiddos, but you are going to have one heck of a gas bill :>P

Katie, we’re looking for a bus, too. Looks like yours has a wheelchair lift, which is part of what we need, as well.

Did you find it locally, or do you have any great tips for sources?

    ebay. :) -Katie

What kind of gas mileage does that thingie get?
We’ve still got room in our 12 passenger (I’m only working on kid #7 right now…), but it is getting high in miles and my husband already has his eyes open for the next vehicle- we may jump to 15 passenger, just so we can have guests/friends ride along.
We live 45 minutes from anything and gas prices are really starting to hurt, but it’s our life, and we love it here- not about to move back to the city just because of gas prices…

Seasons, ah, seasons, they say we have 2 seasons here, winter and road construction… we actually do get a bit of spring, you just have to keep your eyes open that week or you might miss it. Fall is actually my favorite time of year…

Well, enjoy your new wheels, that is definitely pretty cool-
and enjoy your children (I know you do!),

Okay-I’m laughing! Is it LESS busy in states with only “one season”?? :-) Maybe it’s just because you are ENJOYING it all more. Congrats on the great bus!

Wow, you don’t let the grass grow under your feet, do you? How often will Jason be going for EMDR? After 3 weekly visits for David, here are a few of my thoughts. While I think it has great merit, one weekly 1 hr session is not enough. It needs to be more….and consistent through the week. 3 sessions a week would be better and then some ‘homemade’ EMDR going on at home as well. I will be very anxious to hear your experience and thoughts on it.

Ha ha, I rented a book on it and asked a friend about it that has done it. Then I made the appt. :) Jason will be going once a week but the therapist said that the first two or three weeks will be mostly building rapport. Did your therapist give you instructions on how to do it at home? The book I read by the woman that pioneered EMDR says that no matter how far apart the sessions are only 2-3 are usually necessary. I’ll let you know how it goes. -Katie

What’s the story on the midwife? Are you working on a baker’s dozen?
Or is there some other reason to see a midwife?

It would be fun to paint it red and turn that yellow stripe into a RACING STRIPE!!! Yeeeeehaw!

Really? Well, I guess we haven’t really gotten beyond the “building rapport” part then. By homemade EMDR, I just mean having him spend some time daily on things that stimulate both sides of his brain simultaneously. Like taking a break from school and tossing a ball back and forth for a bit. Or doing finger exercises on the piano. Not ‘official’ EMDR. Although she did tell me that with her OCD son, she used to calm him down some with rhythmic tapping on his shoulders or knees as she talked to him.

I haven’t read the book, but I thought the 2-3 session effectiveness was more for addressing a single event or fear. And, I’m looking to deal with many. David is seriously lacking in processing skills across the board, not just one area. Does the book speak to EMDR’s effectiveness for general improvement like that? The woman who pioneered it, originally used it for folks with post traumatic stress disorder, right? But, they are more recently trying to use it for kids who are lacking in neuro-connections across the board. I guess we are targeting one area at a time with David though…maybe I’m just too impatient! Boy, I’d really be interested in the details with Jason as far as what you’re targeting and how he improves. Are you in there with him? My e-mail is hoffland@newnorth.net if you can tell me any more.
