Katie, we are on the road back home. Sorry we couldn’t meet up! Things were more crazy with the conference than I had thought. We will be back to good old MO in the future though!
Have fun with those cute chicks!!! I can hear the squeals of the kids now! =)

Congrats! They are so cute at that stage.
Hey, I don’t know what the wind is like there, but newborn chicks wouldn’t make it long here outside. Chicks are very susceptible to drafts those first few days. Our wind would kill them quick. (That is, without a mama hen to watch out for them.) We normally keep them in 24/7 for the first week or so. Just thought I’d mention that. But maybe the wind is not as bad there? If you start to lose many more, that would be my first thought. A 5% loss is expected. More than that and there is a problem. Of course, our wind would (and has) blown apart a PVC chicken tractor, too, so it’s probably worse here. It seems like a calm day here is 20mph. A windy day will take a huge metal roof and throw it 100 feet. Ask me how I know!
Are they RI Reds? Have fun with them! There is nothing in the world like that first egg!

That chicken tractor is great. I’m with Gina on the wind. Here in Kansas we could never have something so tasteful and functional for a chicken tractor it would have to be made out of steel, welded together, earth-anchored to the ground, weigh a thousand pounds, and even then you are taking a chance : )
Have a great day and enjoy your baby chicks while they are still cute.
Take Care

How fun! Enjoy them; they grow fast and become not-so-cute, but great to have anyway! My friend’s kids and my family are butchering our meat chickens this week or next week. It’ll be an experience!

We have about 50 chickens running around here. They are great fun, but dirty little critters!!! We have had a couple of our hens sitting on some eggs lately and 2 of the finally hatched!! We’ve hatched some in an incubator before, but have never allowed the hens to do it. They are so cute!! Hope they will survive the other hens and roosters.

Very tiny and cute! They going to be egg or meat hens? Please just eggs… :)

Great chicken tractor! Did you build it or buy it?

Congratulations!
Oh they are adorable. My kids LOVE chickens.
There is a nearby farm that we visit that has all sorts of animal, and my kids could spend hours with the chickens.
Enjoy yours!

Oh how precious!
Since I always say “next year”, next year is going to be very busy– it will be the year I finally plant a vegetable garden AND the year we get some chickens! (Lord willing!)

How fun is that! We have seven laying hens as well as 14 chicks that are about 12 days old! You will love them!
