Good Morning!
We get started early here on the farm. Jodi wanted to get going around 5am so here I am at 7am feeling fully awake and perky. Of course, I retired at 9pm the night before after working my fingers to the bones putting up those veggies.
Since I have a moment I thought I’d fill you in on the details of our creek property ownership. You see, the deal is, we still owe $25,000 on that property. And all that $25K is due in a big balloon payment September 2009. Originally we thought we would be able to pay that off in September AND pursue all of our homesteading dreams but as it turns out money does not grow on trees and we had to choose. Animals, garden, life we’ve been dreaming of or creek, smaller property and unfriendly neighbors. You know what we chose.
We are now in the process of swapping our creek property with a man who owns a house and 3 acres in Aurora (45 minutes southwest of Springfield, 2 hours from us here). We will own that house free and clear and put it on the market. Anyone interested in a 1200 sq ft house on 3 acres, quiet cul-de-sac, 5 minutes from WalMart?
It is a foggy morning and I am told we are expecting more rain today, tonight and tomorrow…ok, really though Monday. But right now it is foggy and not rainy. I have the kids out there playing while they can. What we really need are ponchos because those kids were out there getting soaked until I had the good sense to call them in. I tell you what, wide open spaces are what a child needs.
I have plans to make a tummy warming pumpkin soup and home made bread today. Jeff is off to Jillian’s IV appt, to look at goats and pick up things in town and I plan to put more veggies away. Baby is outside playing with the kids. Fabulous. Have a great day!!

I feel all gushy for you! :D
Have a great day friend.
Love,

Gorgeous photo. What an awesome place for kids.
If you didn’t already have 14 people in your family I’d ask if we could come live with you. :)
Looks like you have found your little slice of heaven. Enjoy this wonderful day.
Ya, what Debbie said! ;-) Looks heavenly, Katie! So happy for you all! =)
I am having some serious envy this morning! We need wide open spaces!!! :D What a blessing!
I’m jealous, and I live on a farm. It just isn’t quite as quaint as your little slice of heaven. I’m so happy for you all. Your new place is lovely and without the stress of unfriendly neighbors or neighbors who are too close for comfort. Enjoy the rest of your day and thanks for filling all of us in. We just had to know. We’re nosey like that : )

I’m glad it is all working out for you guys! I’ll be praying you sell that other house – quickly! Can’t wait to see the pics of the new goats. :o)
Hi Mrs. Bettendorf, my mother reads your blog and told me you had some sort of land barter/sale thing going on.
Could you do owner financing? I have a really solid business plan, but it’s slightly unconventional and won’t involve making gobs of cash appear out of thing air, so I can’t do regular financing or pay right away. I’ve got (very) detailed calculations and projections available if you’re interested.
I had to see why people were linking to my blog from this post when I knew I hadn’t left a comment. When I told my son about the “1200 sq ft house on 3 acres, quiet cul-de-sac, 5 minutes from WalMart?” I was thinking about the whole family moving out that way … not just him. He’s 16, after all.
I didn’t mean moving now, mom! Good grief. I don’t intend to actually live in it but not pay for it, ya know.
