The Land of Plenty

The other day we drove into Mountain Grove to see what their Farmer’s Market was like. We also stopped at an Ace Hardware. The kids and I stayed in the van while Jeff ran in. As we were sitting there chatting I spied in the median a piece of landscaping that caught my eye. There was a bush with the most delicious looking red fruit. I was befuddled because it was a bush and it was *landscaping* after all so maybe it was really some exotic fruit.
I sent Jenna to check the bush and bring me back one of the mysterious fruit that I now realized was quite abundant and had fallen off the bush and was accumulating on the ground. Jenna came back with a shiny red apple!! I promptly sent her back to pick apples for every one of us. After all, Ace Hardware was letting them rot on the ground.
They were yummy I tell ya. And I was thankful once again that we moved to this wonderful state where food grows like weeds, there are tiny little towns where people are friendly and there is always a breeze.

Oh, Jeff not only got my clothes line up but the dryer is working as well.

Mountain Grove is where my father is from. He and his 4 siblings are deceased now, but a few years ago on the way home from Branson I decided I would go and see what I remembered from the area of my childhood. I marveled at the town square and the quaintness of it all being JUST AS I REMEMBERED IT !!! It was so awesome that nothing had really changed. The people were so friendly that I ended up finding a cousin I didn’t know I had who then proceeded to show us where my Grandmother had lived as a child and many other family homes, etc. I love Mountain Grove !!!!

YOU have a good eye my friend. What a neat photo. I smell apple sauce — do you think they would let you have a bunch to make apple sauce? I’m looking forward to getting apples at the farmers market this year — I want some more.

I’m curious about this ‘bush’. Apples that grow on a bush . . . hmm I may need to look into that more. Great find.

Ahhhh, you live in a storybook picture.
The clothesline, the chickens, the goats, the rolling hills, the adorable children, and chunky little baby legs. Who could ask for more. :-)

I lived in Mtn Grove for 13 years.
And just happen to know the manager of that Ace hardware.
His name is Jeff :).
If it is a bush as you say perhaps they are crab apples? :)

Yep, I’m gonna raid the tree at the vacant house across the street i about a week. I took one today, but they are still a little too tart- even thought it came right off the tree with a gentle tug. They’re gonna be good for snacking. Mine make the best apple sauce.

Some one has suggested “crab apple”. I think they look similar to our “Pink Lady”. Or maybe “Gala”.
Enjoy Katie. Now we know where to go get a feed for free!
