Ducks.
I mentioned that we have ducks right? Well it just so happens that we have more ducks now. We have a total of 10 and thankfully we also have a pond and 28 acres. Ducks can be noisy and they are certainly messy.
The day that we came to the property to hang out there was a post on freecycle for some Fawn Runner Ducks. Three of them. I knew Junie would be super happy to add to her collection of ducks so we went to pick them up. Then we delivered them to the new place. And they love it here!!
Look how happy they ARE!! If they could talk they’d say "Thank you my Human for bringing me to this paradise." But all they say is "Quack." They say it quite nicely though. I wouldn’t want them to say anything else. After all, they are kind of defined by the quack, are they not? They are checking me out.

They spend much of their time hanging out and eating grass and bugs. Their pond is a bit small, especially if we want to add more quackers (har, har) in the future so Jeff threw bentonite…I think it was bentonite…in the pond and that is supposed to stop things up. In the meantime the duckies are enjoying the water just fine. What do ducks do in the winter? Will they have to join us in the house? I mentioned they are dirty right? Would they stay in the master bath tub? What if we put a garden tub in? I’ll have to talk to Jeff about that because you have no idea how intensely happy I’d be if I could listen to duck murmurings all night.

In the meantime the ducks will stay at the pond and spend their time creating abstract art with the green weeds floating on top. I call this piece "Going Along My Way." You should see the art Sara makes.

I have heard of freecycle quite often… is there ones set up in every city? I might have to look into this. Love the ducks… they should be quite content with the pond and the bugs. :)
Have fun watching them and the chickens… that was one of my favorite parts of having them, they just make you happy while you watch them waddle and quack. :)
Love,
Chas
Do you have a cute little duck house?
This will keep them in winter and keep them safe from duck loving critters.
What’s up with the Vaccinate Your Baby ad??
Thank you so much for sharing the pictures ! We were just talking about them the other day and my son said he knew they had gotten a great home :) They look huge next to the others, we started with 6 and kept 3 but hey’re the only ones we have now and I had forgotton how big they are next to our fat hens :)
I’ve seen ducks in a snowy park in Riga. It made me want to offer them boots. They seemed completely happy, though.
Ducks are tough! I saw them in one of Poland’s coldest Januaries, in Warsaw, walking around on icy ponds and even swimming where the ice was broken. I wouldn’t worry about your duckies in winter. :-)
So, are their wings clipped? Is that why they don’t wander too far?
