The Garden
You guys are right. We should work with what we have AND put the kids to work. I took your advice to heart. One of the things I really want is a fall garden. It was a beautiful day.
Someone who will remain nameless, but whose initials are Jacob Bettendorf, had a very bad attitude. Those things just go together well, don’t they? Disobedient kids and work that I need done. It works out well for me. What would I do if everyone behaved? Nothing would get done. We’d all sit around reading books and blogs and just be happy. Although I’m pretty pleased with our current system.
You remember my big garden spot right? It is being turned over and rocks and roots removed so we can prepare to plant something, anything. Yes, by hand. It is best, believe me. We want to cultivate. Let us grow something.
And guess whose attitude is improving with each shovel load?

That’s the way to do it! Good for you!
Ha! We do exactly the same thing here. My children are used to me saying “My, you are just on a naughty streak today. You must need something to do”. The work never runs out. Even in town. :)
Yep, boys who dig ditches have fantastic attitudes in the end. How do you think Jay became so insanely cheerful? LOL.
You could sell postcard pictures of your beautiful clothesline, with the chickens in the yard, and oh, those beautiful clouds. :-)
Looks FABULOUS! I can’t wait to have a garden like that one day. :) It will be wonderful to see the produce coming from there!
Nice going… what a good way to help brighten his outlook on things. :)
Great looking spot for a garden.
