A Leaf Bug.

leafbug1

It looks like a leaf.

Leopard Moth Caterpillar.

leopardmothcaterpillar1

Bristly and black with red stripes.

It doesn’t sting but it is very shy.

Someday it will be this.  Very appropriate name, doncha think?  Except I think, if I were God, that I would make the caterpillars look like the moth they will become.  That is only fair right?  It would make things so much easier for me and Google.

Yet another turtle.

He was trying to commit Hara-Kiri in the parking lot of the local gas station.

I saved his life.  I think he is a spotted turtle.

Fine specimen that he is.

Love all the critters! How many turtles have made a new home at the Bettendorf hacienda?

Those are great pics! I’m jealous of your photography skills! :) My mom picked up a box turtle like that one when I was a kid. Wrote TEX in big letters on his back with a Sharpie. When he ran away, Mom just had to ask our neighbors if they’d seen Tex. He wasn’t gone long. ;)

I would so LOVE to have another turtle. I had a couple before my kids were born, but they cost about $60 here!

BTW, http://www.whatsthatbug.com will cut the Google time greatly!

We’ve always called those green bugs katydids? Not even sure if that’s a real bug name come to think about it. Love the turtle, I quilt as fast as he walks!

That was me above… logged in as Dad. It wasn’t my fault though. I just didn’t look. That’s what I get for using his computer.

Ohhhh! You just saved me a search! We’ve found a couple of those caterpillars here and was wondering what they were. Now I think we need to bring one in and put it in our butterfly habitat so we can watch it…..that’s a gorgeous moth! Strange thing is that we’ve never seen those moths around here…..

    Groovy critters.
We had a caterpillar like that and it did indeed turn into that unusual white furry moth. Fun!
    Love,
