Chickens Come Home to Roost.
This post is for Kathy and Kimberly who have asked how we get our chickens back in their coop at night. The process in pictures.
7:00pm The chickens are hanging out close to their coop. During the day the run all over the property but as the sun begins to set they stay closer to home.
By 7:10pm most of the chickens have wandered into or on top of the coop.
By 7:20 all but four chickens have gone to bed.

At 7:25 only two were left.

And at 7:30, which is the official sunset, all the chickens were tucked in but it was too dark to photograph. And that’s it.
If we were to move the coop overnight the chickens would be perfectly happy in the morning and all day until nightfall. Then, come night time they would all congregate in the grassy area where the coop was the night before. Silly birds.

Actually I think they are very clever birds! They take themselves off to bed which is more than I can say about most children! LOL!
I love the way they do that… I had some in a tiny cage that they were brought home in… they would come in and set on that cage at night and wait for us to put them back in there for bed.
Oh how I miss chickens.
Love,
Chas
Good chickens. Good. :)
How do they fit in there? We are getting chickens this week. A neighbor just happened to call us to downsize their load. BUt now we need a place to put them besides the big ol’ barn. Blessings.
Karen, if they just sleep in there and free range they don’t need nearly as much space.
I was wondering if your childen are equally as cooperative at bedtime. :-)
As first glance I thought the title was “Chickens Come Home to Roast.” Maybe that heading will come later. ;-)
