Farm Journal – 03Jan09
Eggs for January:
1. 5
2. 10
3. 5
Total: 20
Jenna, John, Jason and I made a closed in area using fencing and T-posts we had laying around. We have 17 broilers left. We started with 50. I am hoping the broilers will be safer and less inclined to die if they are penned. We also created a place to keep layer out for the hens so they can eat what they please and lay accordingly. We are using the 5 gallon poultry waterer and heater for the layers. We have the 3 gallon in the yard and a small waterer in with the broilers. This is not optimal and really we need another base heater to put under the 3 gallon. Perhaps we should move the heater and 5 gallon in with the broilers. Will have to think that through.
Jeff is almost done with the front fence. Both gates are in and were locked last night. That was nice. So far t has kept the dogs from walking across the street. The neighbor will appreciate that
Jeff picked up a pregnant ewe today. Apparently it is white and will eat our grass in front so Jeff doesn’t have to mow.
The bunnies played in the chicken tractor today. Our hope is to soon move them out there full time. But will it be safe enough? I think not.
John and I found where the goats are escaping and placed a feed trough in front of it as a temporary fix until the T-post can be driven back in.
Jefferson was out again but Shiloh did her job well and chased him home.
Sandro cried last night when locked in the barn. Hope he gets used to it.
