The new ewe is beyond cute.  We named her Roving.  Jenna said “Yeah!!  A female herbivore!!” We locked the animals in the paddock using an old cattle panel we stole from another fence area.  We refilled the stock tank because the broilers are contained.  Jenna said “Yeah!!  We almost know what we are doing!”  Roving is due to kid lamb in April.

Llamas came to the paddock today. Pictures coming soon.

Sandro could not be locked in the paddock (he’s more agile than a sheep apparently) and we could not lock the barn up because the animals were not in and it was getting cold last night so we knew they would want in there eventually.

Put out 50/50 for broilers.  3 gallons total today.  Need grower for broilers.  3 gallon waterer in with broilers.  Straw is already getting wet and mucky.  How often will I have to change out their bedding?

Fed layers 2 gallons layer and one gallon scratch.

Jefferson out at lunch time.  Need more pig food.  Goats still contained.

Holder for pig trough needed as the pigs push the trough around and then it can’t be reached over the fence.

It was *hay* I threw down in the barn yesterday not straw.  Doh!!  Get lessons on telling edible grass from bedding grasses.

Jeff finished front fencing.

Jeff left at 4:30pm to buy a stock trailer and 3 *bred* Nubian does.  One is polka dotty.  My heart sings.

Note to self:

Rubber boots are good for mom too.

One gallon buckets (and buckets in general) are imperative to farm life.

  • My favorite thing about farm life is Donuts. :)

  • Who named her Roving??? I named her Ewe.

  • Aunt Bea

Yup…buckets are an absolute must-have! I always seem to run out of buckets and have to beg from my family for more or….they won’t get some tasty produce from the garden! heehee! Isn’t it awesome to have all the animals and plenty of things for all the kids to do?!! Jodie sure looks like she can feed the chickens, and rather likes the little birds, too! Seriously, some of my best memories are from my grandparents’ farm. I must admit that those big slobbering, drooling, cows freaked me out, but it was the headless chickens running around the barnyard at butchering time that really scared the wits out of me…I swear those dang chickens were chasing me! Shall I tell you, Katie, about the tornadoes we had in Iowa when I was a kid…oh…you don’t want to know about those? Well…hmmm…I’ll think of something…ohhhhh, I know, chiggers and poison ivy…have you found any of that stuff yet??!! Anyway, I’m totally envious about your farm and all of the animals, and being able to really see stars at night (no street lights to get in the way!)…so someday I’m coming to see you. No, not from Iowa…I live in Utah, now…close to Laura. Hey, I know…Laura and I can both come see you…maybe bring you some of her bea…u…ti…ful apricots! I’m going to go find some raw milk to make yogurt, now…my kids love that stuff! Thanks for the pics and tutorial!
    Hugs, Aunt Bea
P.S. Jenna, you gotta watch out for moms…they can be very sneaky about switching names around! Whatever her name is…she’s probably cute!

  • Yeah… how did her name come to be Roving? We decided on Mittens.
