Farm Journal – 06Jan09

Today’s eggs: 6

January total: 39

cat

Jeff picked up 6 of the cutest Nubian goats last night.  They fit in great.  One looks particularly thin and I need to do some research on that.  We are going tonight to buy 3 more.

Jeff rewired the new to us stock trailer.

One gallon layer and 2 gallons of 50/50.

Jefferson in the backyard again.  Need to remember to close the gate and need to arrange to put hot wire up.

The skinny goat is probably wormy! Goats are notorious for worms!

  • Look into Molly’s Herbal Wormer for goats. I hear it works great. It is what we plan on getting when we get our goats this spring.

You mention feeding the layers 50/50 what is this? Curious, as we have just begun this adventure as well. Thanks to you I have started keeping track of our eggs. Do you just have the one pig? He may be more content to stay put if he had a friend. We raised 3 pigs this spring/summer/fall. One for our freezer, the other two for friends. Love your blog!

  • I also took that picture of the cat. Man, if you’re going to steal all my pictures you could at least say that I took them. :O Someday, I’m going to tell everyone on here that I’m the real picture taker. ;)

  • Oh, my! You guys have been busy! Really, I am seriously jealous. It all looks like so much fun. But after our last chicken disaster, I do not think I can talk my gang and their leader into any more farm animals.

For making yogurt: I assume that if you use store bought homogenized milk, you do not need to boil it first. Will yogurt making even work with the store stuff?
