When Things Get Busy

Garden season is almost upon us (for some it has begun) and things are getting hectic around here.  Plus people are starting to thaw out and get tired of the cabin fever so we are getting together with friends more often.  I love this change of seasons that we have here in Missouri.

Jeff is on his way home this very instant with a gajillion cement blocks to start building our garden.  A friend told us about a place in Springfield called Midwest Block (used to be Glenstone Block) that had blocks cheap (seconds).  So we will be moving and arranging blocks for the next several days.  I hope to make my February 20th deadline.  I also need to order some gardening books so feel free to suggest your favorites.  Kim, I already read Four Season Harvest and will be purchasing that one.  I am also using excel to set up my beds.  I’ll let you see when they are done.

Last Thursday Robyn (go ahead and click, she is blogging again forget it) was kind enough to host a sewing party.  She had 5 families and 30 children over.  It was chaos really fun. The little ones ran around the house while the bigger kids played outside.  My boys were so excited that there were 2 other older boys there and they tried to kill each other played nicely the whole time.  Robyn even made her world famous chili and we made our favorite cornbread.  There are now two more women on the planet that know how to make playdresses and that makes me smile.  I didn’t take any pictures because while I was not tutoring I was working on a quilt.

Kids are in bed and I’m heading to the tub.

  • Do you have any pictures to share of how you plan to have your garden? I’m getting my cement blocks at the end of the week. I’m so excited! I haven’t decided exactly how I am setting things up, but it won’t be long before I have pics to share. I’ve been over and over the pics on the SFG site.

I clicked happily over to Robyn’s blog, but found it still sadly empty.

  • My goodness she is fickle.

  • Robyn

well, if I was predictable that would be boring wouldn’t it? :-)

  • The sewing party sounds lovely. We to are planning our garden. Our beds will be 3′ x 10′. We will be putting up one bed at a time.

The sewing party sounds like lots of fun.

Robyn I hope you keep blogging.
Katie when do (or did) fruit trees go in?

  • Gil, Trees are supposed to be here this week but I don’t want to talk about it. ;)

Garden time? What??? It’s still snowing!!!!!!!

I’m so jealous. But then again, I adore winter. I just wish you could it be 70 degrees AND snowing at the same time. ::sigh::

Dreaming of gardening..waiting for the snow to stop here! Post some pics when you can.

  • Okay. You really, really, really REALLY need a copy of “Gardening When It Counts” by Steve Solomon.

I did SFG for two years and this book really threw me for a loop. It is so GOOD! And it makes so much SENSE!!!!! With the rest of the way ya’ll live overall, I think you really need this book.

Please. I’m begging. Four Seasons is good (I got that at the same time) but this book is better. It goes into so much, yet it’s like talking to a friend. Get it. :)

  • Oh – I would love to go to a sewing party!
I wish I knew more people that live close-by that sew!

  • Oh a sewing party sounds like so much fun. We are planning our garden here and this will be the first time here at our new little farm. My daughter ordered loads of seeds but we wish we could get more and more and more……. We get two mama goats tomorrow with due dates in March…WOOHOOOO…Blessings.

Katie, I’m not much of a commenter, but I am a faithful reader of your blog. :)
And please let Robyn know that I look forward to seeing her back in action. Again.
I mean really, can a person ever get enough of duvets and brown Rit dye? I don’t think so.
