Rosie’s Arrival
Last Tuesday it was time for our new milk cow to join us here on the farm. Jeff went to pick her up with our little stock trailer. I didn’t think Rosie would fit. But cows are smaller than I remembered.

Jenna began talking to Rosie. Jenna is the cow whisperer. Hello Rosie, I’m your new milker. I like large animals and I’d like to be one a large animal vet someday.

Rosie’s not too sure about this. I think they have electricity here, the heathens. or maybe she is saying Hoorah, warm water, no more cold hands on my under region!
As you can see, she converted on the 20 minutes drive over and doesn’t mind having her picture taken. Her kap flew off on the freeway. How’s that feel Rosie, let your hair down.
And then Rosie had to exit the trailer. Now this is a funny sight. Milk cows are not the most graceful of creatures.

But she made it down and turned herself around to find an escape.

Off she went. And I said “I’m glad I’m not a cow.”

She had no idea where she was going and although we knew where she should go we had no way of telling her how things are. (She doesn’t speak English?) We wanted to introduce her to her new friends.
Rosie? Does anyone else giggle when they see the back end of a milk cow?

Jeff thought he had a good plan which involved chasing her around with a grain bucket in his hand.

It was such a fun game that the dogs got involved.

Until finally they scared wrangled her over into the paddock. And Jeff was convinced that he was going to put a halter on a frightened 800 pound animal. I wasn’t so convinced. And their methods bothered me.
So I left.
(The next day Jenna and I caught her and milked her. Catch those pics tomorrow.)

Rosie is lovely!
I think I was actually mooing to her… Not telling her that I want to to be one of those people in white jackets that poke her with big needles.
What a blessing! I will have to stick to my goats since I don’t think we have enough room to graze a cow.
