So You Say You Wanna Farm??

This message came through on a Yahoo group I am on.  I asked Evelyn if I could pass this info on in case anyone is interested.  She is located in Lebanon, MO.
OK… it’s official… my farming partners are moving! The partner on my farm just gave me 30 days notice [...]

The Mower.

Long, long ago in a place and time far, far away Jeff, my amazing husband, was not the best dad.  That is all over now.  Jeff is now Super Dad.  I can’t begin to tell you how impressed I am when Jeff takes the boys and keeps them with him while he works on a [...]

Barn Stalls

When we moved here the barn had 5 "bays", for lack of a better word, but really only 3 different areas.  One small area on the east side that has a gate so the animals can’t get in.  We made that area into enclosed storage for all of our stuff that won’t fit in this [...]

My Potato Plot

There are some things I am good at and some things I am not so good at.  Training children – check.  Making chicken broth – check.  Choosing a winner for my book give away – Errr….umm….  I’m sorry.  I keep forgetting.  I’m a creature of habit and routine, it seems.  I’ll get right on that [...]

How We Milk the Cow – Part II

You can catch Part I here. Now let’s continue the tour.
After hobbling the cow Jenna cleans off the under region and "spigots" (Thank you Pamela).

The first few squirts go on the ground to clean out any bacteria that might have run *up* the plumbing instead of down.

Then it’s the moment of truth.  [...]

How We Milk The Cow

Since so many of you wanted info about our new milk cow I am here to fill you in.  Perhaps you are curious about the milking process.  Some people have experienced it first hand and now I’ll let the rest of you see how it is done.
This here was our milking bucket before we bought [...]

Clothesline, Oh Clothesline

Please indulge me with my clothesline fetish.  It’s a bit weird and maybe creepy to some but I can’t get enough.

The small white kitchen towels don’t do it.  The underwear, never.  The jeans might.  We are such a jeans family.

But hang a bunch of towels up and I can’t stay away.  I must go out [...]

Mini Moos Part II

So after everyone was out and walking around we finally got our wits together and made a bottle for the hungry little bovines.  They were so happy to see that red nipple.

But the calves that were not being fed RIGHT NOW were still bellowing.  And that made Rosie leave her yummy place in the far [...]

Mini Moos

Or Multiple Moos.  Or Many Moos.  Or ahhhh…they’re baby cows.  There are 4 new bull calves at my place.  This is how we roll here at the Bettendorf place.  See an ad, answer ad, bring new animals to the farm.  There isn’t a whole lot of deep thought going on.

What have you done to me?  [...]

For Your Viewing Pleasure

I’ll be gone today at Jill’s vitamin IV appointment (and some other running around in town) so Jeff will be holding down the fort.  That means, don’t come visit if dirty, unfed children bother you because it is quite likely that that may be the scenario here today. Oh wait, I have older kids now.  [...]
