The Lewis Family

June 30, 2008

We went and visited at the hospital.  Luke looks great and Dana and Tony are holding up as well.  We only visited for a minute because they are only allowed to have 2 people in the PICU at a time.  Which meant Tony had to leave so I could go in.  Dana said that Luke was using a mask and snorkel and the pool was just a play pool that went from 3ft to 5ft.  Dana was constantly counting heads and when she couldn’t find Luke she asked the kids and the boys found him at their feet.  One of the older boys lifted him out and one of the Swager girls started CPR.  Dana said that Luke was responsive before he was life flighted in that his pupils dilated and he was breathing.  The nurse said his O2 sats were only in the 70s and that is why he was intubated.

I’m going to post what Chautona posted at the Woodshed in case there are those that read here that don’t read there.

An update from a friend of Dana’s
I just spoke with Dana. She said that Luke is doing well, in that he is responding to pain and even struggles against the ventilator when the anesthesia wears off a bit. They are keeping him under for the time being. Dana said he might be on the vent for a day or for a week. They just don’t know.
She sounded so dreadfully tired.
Please pray for Tony and Dana and for Luke. Also, please pray for the other children. The older children are scared to death because they understand the danger that Luke is in, and the littles are not used to ever being away from their parents. Please pray specifically that Joseph would rest tonight and that Dana will not get mastitis from not nursing regularly.

Please continued to pray for the Lewis family.  It is hard enough to have a sick child but to be in a strange area far from home would be even harder.  Also please keep the other kids in your prayers including the Swager’s daughter who performed CPR on Luke.  We spoke with Mr. Swager in the hallway and he shared with us that his daughter is pretty shaken.  I believe she is 20 years old.

Yesterday I had the extreme pleasure of meeting Tony and Dana Lewis.  Dana and I have known each other several years through online forums.  We hung out at the park for several hours and hit it off.  Tony and Dana are visiting her best friend Jayne here in SW Missouri.

Today around 6:30pm I received a phone call from Dana asking for prayer.  Their son Luke has drown in the family swimming pool and is being life flighted to Springfield as I post this.  His blood pressure is good but his lungs were full of water when he left Jayne’s house.  Tony and Dana are forced to drive the 2 hours to Springfield to be reunited with their son.  Please storm the gates of heaven now on the Lewis’ behalf.  I will keep you updated as I know anything.

And the Winner Is.

Remember I asked you all to tell me What You Would Do If Everything Cost 10 Times What It Does Now.  And I said there would be a prize for the one with the best idea.  Now of course Veronica had to go get smart with me and ask what the criteria were to determine the best idea.  The best ideas were ones that I had not considered and when I read them I said "Ah-ha!!  That’s right!!"  The one idea that I had not even considered was given by:

Veronica - For her comment about acquiring some midwifery/homebirth information.  Of course I have 3 homebirths under by belt so I think I’ve got it down.  Not to brag or anything.

So, Veronica, I will be sending you a subscription to a homesteading magazine of your choice.  Here are some ideas to get you started:  Countryside, Backwoods Home, Mother Earth News.  Let me know what you are interested in.

As for me, I will be ordering Where Women Have No Doctor, just in case I find myself in a position where I need to help someone because doctors are cost prohibitive.

Thanks for playing.
